Riptides Best Diamonds in Pitching Duel
|
The Carolina Riptides faced a tough opponent in Anaheim pitcher Jon Gray, but did just enough to pull out the victory at IBM Field by a final score of 2-1. Gray went 5 innings and allowed no runs. Carolina reliever Gabe Speier picked up the win, raising his record to 2-1. Mike Clevinger was tagged with the loss. Dedniel Nunez recorded the save, his 2nd.
Carolina took a 2-0 lead on Ryan McMahon's 14th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which McMahon hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Anaheim pitcher Mike Clevinger visibly frustrated.
"We leaned on our pitching tonight," McMahon said.
The Riptides lead the Union League Eastern Division by 2½ games.
