San Francisco starter Louie Varland put a stranglehold on the Denver offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Dragons to a 6-1 win. The winner was Varland. He threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Seth Lugo. The win elevated the Dragons to 44-34.

San Francisco used the hitting of Oneil Cruz to pick up the win. The shortstop clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Dragons on top, 4-0. For the game, Cruz had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said San Francisco manager Joe Turnage.
