Washington got a strong outing from Luis Garcia as the Hitmen defeated the Cincinnati Stars, 4-2, at RFK Stadium. Garcia picked up the win for Washington, going 5.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 6-4. Ian Hamilton, credited with the save, is now 19 for 20 in save opportunities.
The Hitmen got a big at-bat from left fielder Masataka Yoshida. For the game, Yoshida was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Washington a 3-1 lead.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Pat Padula.
By defeating Cincinnati, the 4th-place Hitmen improved to 37-42.
