Bombers Handle Washington, Snag 5-1 Win
|
The Washington Hitmen could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto into a win. Instead, the Bronx Bombers prevailed, 5-1. Yamamoto threw 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball. Carlos Rodon, who finished 5th in the FL in ERA with 3.30 last year, was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed no runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. After today's action, Bronx sits at 40-47; Washington slips to 41-46.
Bronx won the game in part because of Patrick Wisdom. The third baseman ripped a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Bombers ahead, 5-0. For the game, Wisdom had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Bronx manager Jeremiah Coggins.
