The Carolina Riptides downed the St Louis Sluggers, 5-4, at IBM Field. The Riptides were led by Brett Baty. Baty went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. The winner was Gabe Speier in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Jameson Taillon took the loss. Matt Brash, credited with the save, is now 8 for 9 in save opportunities.

With Carolina trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Baty hit a curveball from Jameson Taillon for a 3-run home run. It was his 16th home run of the season and put the Riptides ahead, 5-3.

Carolina manager Rob Hansen called it "a good, solid win."

Carolina raised its record to 50-40 with the win.
