The San Francisco Dragons welcomed the Anaheim Diamonds to an night game at Pac Bell Park.

The San Francisco Dragons rode a solid performance from 27-year-old starting pitcher Louie Varland to a win, beating the Anaheim Diamonds, 5-1, at Pac Bell Park. Varland yielded 1 run over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 4-1.

Jazz Chisholm had a big 3-run home run for the Dragons in the bottom of the fourth inning. With San Francisco leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from Mike Clevinger, who finished 5th in the UL in wins with 14 in 2021, and punished it. The result was his 22nd home run of the season, which put the Dragons on top, 5-0.

"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Varland.

The triumph puts San Francisco at 56-37 for the season.
