Max Scherzer never let New York get something going. The Tampa Bay right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Bandits to a 4-1 win. Matt Strahm earned his 15th save in 16 chances. Tampa Bay improves to 59-36 with the win. They lead their division by 8½ games.
Tampa Bay used a clutch at-bat from Aaron Judge to capture the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Bandits ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Tampa Bay skipper George Hoffman.
