Ironmen Upend Riptides, 9-6
|
The Pittsburgh Ironmen spoiled a good performance by Carolina first baseman C.J. Cron, bumping off Carolina, 9-6, at IBM Field. Cron went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. David Robertson got the save, his 14th in 17 chances. Carolina has now lost 4 consecutive games.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2 for 5 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Pittsburgh. The two-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a 2-run single off Jordan Montgomery. It was his 52nd hit of the season.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Guerrero Jr. said. "We did a good job of that today."
