Phalanx Pop Roses, 9-3
|
The Philadelphia Phalanx knocked off the Oakland Roses, 9-3, in Federal League action at Fan's Ballyard. Philadelphia pitcher and West Palm Beach, Florida, native Logan Allen had an outstanding performance. Allen yielded 1 run over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 3. His record improves to 5-9. The defeat makes Oakland 51-52.
Byron Buxton had a big 2-run home run for the Phalanx in the top of the third inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 34-year old left-handed pitcher Steve Matz and punished it. The result was his 17th home run of the season, which put the Phalanx on top, 3-0.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Philadelphia manager Stephen Esterhazy.
