The Denver Bears could not turn a fine performance from designated hitter Mike Trout into a win. Instead, the Carolina Riptides prevailed, 5-2. Trout went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win went to Tony Santillan in relief, making him now 2-2. Brayan Bello took the loss for Denver. Matt Brash notched his 12th save in 13 chances.
Ezequiel Tovar took Denver hurler Declan Cronin deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 3-run home run put the Riptides on top, 5-2. In all, Tovar had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
Said Denver manager Aaron Hill: "They just got the better of us."
The Riptides improved their record to 59-45 with the win over Denver.
