The New York Sharks defeated the Carolina Riptides, 8-7, in Union League action at IBM Field. Mitch Garver pulled his weight. The 8-year veteran went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. New York reliever Collin McHugh got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Phil Bickford was tagged with the loss. Kenley Jansen got the save, his 11th in 12 chances.

The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Jurickson Profar came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Carolina pitcher Phil Bickford, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 8-7.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said New York skipper Nick Ruport.

The victory gives New York a record of 62-50.
