The Carolina Riptides got a good effort from starter Denyi Reyes in defeating the Toronto Hogs at IBM Field. The final score was 2-1. Carolina reliever Gabe Speier picked up the win, raising his record to 3-1. Jesse Chavez was tagged with the loss. Brooks Raley, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.

The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Cedric Mullins came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Toronto pitcher John King, he hit a 1-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Carolina on top, 2-1.

"The old adage is true," said Mullins. "Good pitching stops good hitting."

The first-place Riptides, at 59-56, now lead their division by 3½ games.
