Millers Suffer One-Run Loss at New York
|
The New York Sharks beat the Minnesota Millers, 5-4, in part because of right fielder Kerry Carpenter. He was 2-2 with a double and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times. Yusei Kikuchi, the winner, goes to 12-5. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts over 5 innings. New York is now 54-62, Minnesota 64-52.
New York third baseman Yoan Moncada contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a slider to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 118th hit of the season and put the Sharks ahead, 5-4.
New York manager Nick Ruport praised his team's "businesslike approach."
