Riptides Win with Late Rally
|
Due in part to first baseman Kody Clemens, the Carolina Riptides chopped down the Baltimore Wildcats, 8-7, in 12 innings. Clemens was 5 for 6 with a home run, a double, and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Phil Bickford got credit for the win, improving to 6-4. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. Gabe Speier converted his 2nd save in 5 tries.
Carolina needed the clutch hitting of Brenton Doyle to seal the deal. The center fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Riptides on top, 8-6. For the game, Doyle had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
In postgame comments, Doyle said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
The Union League Eastern Division-leading Riptides are 63-60.
