The St Louis Sluggers downed the Los Angeles Spirit, 5-0, at Busch Stadium. Stellar pitching by Lance McCullers Jr. had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 5th in the FL in wins with 16 in 2020, handcuffed his opponent all game. McCullers Jr., the winner, moves to 8-5. He threw 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks. Nate Pearson earned his 3rd save in 4 chances.

Thairo Estrada dealt the Spirit a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with the bases loaded and St Louis leading 1-0, Estrada, who finished 3rd in the UL in hits with 181 in 2022, hit a first pitch sinker for a run-scoring single.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Estrada said after the game.

The Sluggers improved their record to 67-56 by beating Los Angeles.
