Riptides Pull Out Late Win, 6-5
Portland wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Chris Sale, falling to the Carolina Riptides, 6-5. Sale threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Grant Holmes, 7-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. Matt Brash was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 19 of 21 save opportunities.

Cody Bellinger drove in one run for Carolina. The fan favorite had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Lou Trivino. It was his 25th RBI of the season.

"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," Bellinger said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."

The Union League Eastern Division-leading Riptides are 72-52.
