Good production from designated hitter Kyle Schwarber helped the Carolina Riptides topple the New York Sharks, 6-4. Schwarber was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Riptides. Clayton Kershaw, who led the UL in ERA with 3.07 in 2018, was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Matt Brash, credited with the save, is now 25 for 29 in save opportunities.

Schwarber had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 0-1 sinker from Seranthony Dominguez, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Riptides a 6-4 lead. It was the 35th home run of the year for Schwarber.

"We didn't play well enough to win," New York skipper Nick Ruport said.

The Union League Eastern Division-leading Riptides are 73-53.
