Phoenix Dealt 5-4 Defeat
|
Pittsburgh parlayed a decent outing from starter Matthew Boyd into a solid win over the Phoenix Firebirds. The final score was 5-4. Boyd picked up the win for Pittsburgh, going 5.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 6-8. David Robertson got the save, his 31st in 34 chances.
Pittsburgh used a clutch at-bat from Anthony Rendon to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Ironmen ahead, 4-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Matthew gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said Pittsburgh skipper Ryan Morneau.
Pittsburgh is now 61-66, Phoenix 73-54.
