The Carolina Riptides had to overcome a good performance from Georgia pitcher Clarke Schmidt to claim a 2-1 win at Eddie Matthews Stadium. Schmidt went 7 innings and allowed no runs. Gabe Speier picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 4-1. John Means suffered the loss. Phil Bickford, credited with the save, is now 1 for 3 in save opportunities.

Carolina took advantage of an error in the top of the 12th inning. The game was tied, 1-1, when Cedric Mullins hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Riptides in front, 2-1.

"It never gets old," said Mullins. "Winning, that is."

The win elevated the Riptides to 67-61.
