Pittsburgh 2-0 Losers to Firebirds
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Phoenix Firebirds and the Pittsburgh Ironmen, Reid Detmers, who is on pace for 240 strikeouts this season, was the difference-maker. The Phoenix left-hander spearheaded the 2-0 win. Phoenix reliever Justin Slaten got the win, raising his record to 3-2. Andrew Abbott was tagged with the loss. Picking up the save was Edwin Diaz, his 29th.
Phoenix took a 2-0 lead on Zack Gelof's 16th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Gelof hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Pittsburgh pitcher Andrew Abbott visibly frustrated.
"I just made my pitches," said Detmers, "and the ball kept missing the bat."
The triumph puts Phoenix at 74-54 for the season.
