Pittsburgh Loss Spoils Terrific Game by Torres
|
Gleyber Torres did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Pittsburgh Ironmen from being beaten, 11-8, to the St Louis Sluggers at Busch Stadium. Torres hit 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. The win went to Bennett Sousa in relief. His record improves to 1-3. Yariel Rodriguez took the loss. St Louis improves to 75-61 with the win. They lead their division by 5 games.
The Ironmen had been locked in a 8-8 tie with the Sluggers going into the bottom of the seventh inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old second baseman Luke Williams came to the plate. Williams hit a 2-run double on a first pitch curveball from Pittsburgh hurler Yariel Rodriguez. It was Williams's 12th double of the year.
"I felt good up there," said Williams. "I saw the ball well."
