In a low-scoring game between the Carolina Riptides and the St Louis Sluggers, pitcher Jordan Montgomery was masterful on the mound. The Carolina left-hander spearheaded his team's 3-1 win. Pierce Johnson picked up the save for Carolina, his 2nd of the year. The win puts Carolina at 3-1.

Ryan McMahon hit a 2-run home run off Ryan Burr in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Riptides ahead, 3-1. In addition to the homer, McMahon had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.

"Jordan can overpower you," said Carolina manager Rob Hansen.
