San Diego pitcher Cody Bradford gave the Explorers all they could handle, but in the end, Chicago left Petco Park with a win, 2-1. Bradford allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 6.2 innings. Chicago pitcher Jason Adam earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Garrett Cleavinger suffered the loss. The Snakeyes drop to 7-7 and continue their mediocre start to the 2026 season.

Esteury Ruiz had a direct impact on the outcome. Ruiz contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Chicago up, 2-1.

"Good ballgame," said San Diego manager Kelly Woolsey. "But we came up on the short end."
