Tarik Skubal, who finished 5th in the UL in strikeouts with 185 last year, had a strong outing for the Carolina Riptides against the San Diego Snakeyes at IBM Field. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 3-2 win. Reliever Peter Fairbanks picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Zebby Matthews took the loss. Carolina is 73-64 and San Diego, with the loss, 66-71.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Carolina right fielder Juan Soto, facing Yennier Cano, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Riptides the 3-2 win.

"What a buzz," said Soto after it was over.
