Roses Sneak Past Firebirds, 6-5
|
The Oakland Roses beat the Phoenix Firebirds, 6-5, at Chase Field. The Roses got a fine performance from first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, who went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win went to Jason Foley in relief, making him now 6-0. Edwin Diaz took the loss for Phoenix. Fernando Cruz converted his 35th save in 39 tries.
Lowe had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 2-1 fastball from Edwin Diaz, he banged a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the Roses a 6-5 lead. It was the 23rd home run of the year for Lowe.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Lowe told the Oakland Gazette.
The Roses now have a record of 75-66 with the win over Phoenix.
