Sluggers Rack Up 2-1 Win Versus Philadelphia
|
Sandy Alcantara pitched a gem to lead St Louis to victory over the Philadelphia Phalanx, 2-1. Alcantara, now 6-9, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Sam Hentges notched his 2nd save in 8 chances.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Shay Whitcomb? The 27-year old second baseman Whitcomb stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put St Louis up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Sandy giving us the start that he did was huge," said St Louis manager John Hawkins.
The defeat makes Philadelphia 60-83.
