Sharks 4-2 Winners Over Chicago
|
The New York Sharks defeated the Chicago Explorers, 4-2. First Baseman Buddy Kennedy deserved a large share of the credit. Kennedy was 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Sharks. Nestor Cortes got the win, improving to 3-2. He worked 6.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. By defeating Chicago, the second-place Sharks improved to 72-75.
Tommy Edman had a big solo home run for the Sharks in the bottom of the sixth inning. With New York leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Albert Abreu and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Sharks on top, 3-1.
New York manager Nick Ruport commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
