Sharks Win, 4-1, Versus Philadelphia
|
Sharks designated hitter Kerry Carpenter left his mark on his team's 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Phalanx. Carpenter, who is on pace for 119 RBI this season, was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for New York in the contest. Aroldis Chapman claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record stands at 5-2. With this game in the books, New York is 73-77, Philadelphia 72-78.
Matt Wallner came through with a big-time hit for New York. The right fielder smacked a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
New York manager Nick Ruport commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
