Phalanx Beaten By Sluggers, 9-3
|
Jeimer Candelario was a major contributor to the 9-3 St Louis win over Philadelphia. The Sluggers third baseman went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. St Louis goes to 83-69. The win puts them 6 games up in their division.
Taylor Ward had a big 2-run double for the Sluggers in the bottom of the first inning. With St Louis trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from Garrett Whitlock, who is a two-time All-Star, and swatted a double to center. It was his 34th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Sluggers ahead, 2-1.
"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Philadelphia manager Stephen Esterhazy.
