Riptides Prevail, 5-4, Over Chicago
|
The Carolina Riptides overcame a pretty good performance by Chicago left fielder Jon Berti, beating the Explorers, 5-4, at Baron's Ballyard. Berti was 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Carolina pitcher Jordan Montgomery got the win. He's now 8-9. Cody Poteet was tagged with the loss. Phil Bickford was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 4 save opportunities.
Carolina won the game in part because of Dairon Blanco. The left fielder ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Riptides ahead, 3-1. For the game, Blanco had 2 doubles and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Chicago manager Rock Carpenter. "But we decided not to take it."
The victory gives Carolina a record of 82-70.
