Stars Defeat Riptides, 7-5
|
The Cincinnati Stars needed 10 innings to defeat the Carolina Riptides, 7-5, at IBM Field. Cincinnati right fielder Randal Grichuk had a superb performance. He went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2. Earning his 5th save of the year was Colin Holderman. After losing, Carolina is 18-11.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Andres Gimenez came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Carolina pitcher Alexis Diaz, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 6-5.
In postgame comments, Grichuk said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
