Titans Deal Los Angeles 5-2 Defeat
|
Houston turned a good performance from starting pitcher Dane Dunning into a 5-2 triumph over the Los Angeles Spirit at New League Park. Dunning, now 12-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 10, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. The first-place Titans, at 91-63, now lead their division by 6½ games.
Bryan De La Cruz had a big 2-run home run for the Titans in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Houston leading 3-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a changeup from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Shane Drohan and punished it. The result was his 17th home run of the season, which put the Titans on top, 5-1.
"This was a nice win for us," said De La Cruz. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
