Georgia Dealt 5-4 Defeat
|
Nathaniel Lowe led Oakland to a win over Georgia. The final score was 5-4. Lowe, who is on pace for 110 RBI this season, collected 2 RBI, while going 3 for 5 at the plate. The first baseman also scored 2 times. The winning pitcher was Steve Matz. His record now stands at 11-7. The left-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 10 hits for the Roses. Fernando Cruz converted his 42nd save in 46 tries.
Oakland designated hitter Jorge Polanco contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the seventh. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 145th hit of the season and put the Roses ahead, 5-3.
"Not to put too fine a point on it," said Lowe, "but we really needed that win."
With the win, the Roses have a record of 84-73.
