Ironmen Edge Past Demons, 6-5
|
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was a vital contributor to the 6-5 Pittsburgh victory over Detroit. The Ironmen designated hitter was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Ryne Stanek, credited with the win in relief, is now 4-2. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1 innings. David Robertson notched his 35th save in 38 chances.
Nick Allen went 1 for 3 for Pittsburgh. The 26-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the ninth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off J.P. Feyereisen. It was his 14th RBI of the season.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Allen, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
Today's win puts Pittsburgh at 75-85, while Detroit falls to 78-82.
