Great Effort by PoorBoys 2B Volpe Not Enough in 13-7 Loss
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Montreal PoorBoys and Texas Vipers get after it.
Montreal shortstop Anthony Volpe had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 13-7, to Texas at Pepsi Dome. Volpe hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Yu Darvish, who went 5 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 5 runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 2-3.
Bryce Harper had a big grand slam home run for the Vipers in the bottom of the second inning. With Texas trailing 3-1 and the bases loaded, he sized up a slider from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Alec Marsh and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Vipers on top, 5-3.
Vipers manager Pete Seto wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
The loss drops the PoorBoys to 15-15.
