Max Scherzer, who led the UL in strikeouts with 208 in 2023, had a strong outing for the Cincinnati Stars against the Anaheim Diamonds at Great American Ball Park. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 6-3 win. Scherzer yielded 2 runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 9. His record improves to 4-1. Colin Holderman was credited with the save for Cincinnati, his 6th of the season.

Garrett Mitchell took Anaheim hurler Michael Clevinger deep in the bottom of the fifth. His 2-run home run put the Stars on top, 3-2. In all, Mitchell had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Mitchell. "And not try to do too much."
