The Carolina Riptides powered past the visiting Portland Jaguars, 6-1, in the opener of the Round 1 at IBM Field. Carolina starting pitcher Tarik Skubal threw 8.2 innings of 3-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Riptides now lead the series 1-0.

Skubal confounded Portland hitters. Over 8.2 innings, he allowed 1 run on 3 hits.

"Tarik is good at sticking to his strengths," said Carolina manager Rob Hansen.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at IBM Field in Raleigh.
