Firebirds Flatten Bears, 15-1
|
The Phoenix Firebirds captured an easy win, 15-1, over the Denver Bears at Chase Field. Zack Gelof led the offensive barrage, going 4-for-6 for Phoenix. Reid Detmers got the win, improving to 2-4. He worked 6.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. The Bears drop to 14-18, as their stumbling start to the 2026 season continues.
Fernando Tatis Jr., who finished 4th in the FL in extra base hits with 72 last year, chipped in a 3-run home run for Phoenix in the bottom of the second. For the game, the right fielder had 3 hits in 6 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"This is one game in a long season," said losing manager Aaron Hill. "The sooner we can forget about it, the better."
