Late Heroics Net Roses 2-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Oakland Roses and the Baltimore Wildcats, Spencer Schwellenbach, who finished 3rd in the UL in wins with 15 last year, proved to be the difference. The Oakland right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Roses win. Oakland pitcher Brock Burke got the win, upping his record to 2-0. Joe Kelly got the loss. For the Wildcats, the loss makes their record 11-21.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Oakland shortstop Miguel Rojas, facing JoJo Romero, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Roses the 2-1 win.
"I believe in our guys," said Oakland skipper Herb Pilgrim. "I like the energy they're playing with."
