Phoenix Nets 8-7 Win Versus Sharks
|
The Phoenix Firebirds defeated the New York Sharks, 8-7, in 16 innings. Much of the credit belonged to left fielder Joey Gallo, who hit 3 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring three times for the Firebirds. The Sharks fall to 14-18 and continue their uneven start to the 2025 season.
Batting in the bottom of the 16th, 31-year old left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a real shot to win the game. New York pitcher Blake Treinen was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Gurriel Jr. hit a run-scoring single. The Firebirds had a walk-off triumph.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Gallo.
