Sharks Lose to Firebirds, 9-5
The Phoenix Firebirds downed the New York Sharks, 9-5, at Chase Field. Austin Slater led the way, going 1-for-3 for Phoenix. Reliever Justin Slaten picked up the win. His record improves to 1-2. Yusei Kikuchi, who finished 5th in the UL in ERA with 3.61 in 2019, took the loss. The victory gives Phoenix a record of 18-15.

Ke'byran Hayes had a big bases-clearing double for the Firebirds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Phoenix leading 6-5 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Hector Neris, who led the UL in saves with 40 in 2020, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Firebirds ahead, 9-5.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Hayes.
