Diamonds Take Tight Tangle
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Anaheim Diamonds eventually prevailed.
The Anaheim Diamonds overcame a pretty good performance by Cincinnati shortstop Marcus Betts, beating the Stars, 9-8, at Great American Ball Park. Betts went 2-3 with a triple and 3 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Anaheim reliever Ryan Yarbrough got the win, raising his record to 1-3. Michael Burrows was tagged with the loss. Brennan Bernardino closed the door for Anaheim, picking up his 2nd save of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Dylan Carlson came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Michael Burrows, he hit a 1-1 changeup for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Anaheim on top, 7-5.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Carlson.
The Diamonds go to 13-20 with the win.
