Murphy Slugs Firebirds to 7-4 Win
|
The Phoenix Firebirds defeated the Carolina Riptides, 7-4, at IBM Field. Leading the charge for Phoenix was catcher Sean Murphy. He was 3 for 3 with 2 home runs, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Reid Detmers, the winner, improved to 3-4. He held the Riptides to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 2. Carolina has now lost 4 in a row.
Murphy contributed in the top of the third. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a run-scoring double. It was one at-bat among others that helped Phoenix get the win.
"Anytime you're seeing it well, it's a good feeling," Murphy told the Phoenix News.
