Carolina beat Philadelphia in a rain-soaked ballgame.

Carolina Riptides starter Clayton Kershaw turned in an exceptional performance against the Philadelphia Phalanx at Citizens Bank Park, resulting in a Carolina win, 4-1. Kershaw got the win, improving to 3-1. He gave up 3 hits and walked 1 over 5.1 innings. He allowed no runs. Jordan Romano collected his 1st save.

Ryan McMahon, who is on pace to hit 47 home runs this season, had a direct impact on the outcome. McMahon contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Carolina up, 1-0.

"Clayton is pitching with a lot of determination and a lot of fire," said Carolina manager Rob Hansen.

With the win, the Riptides have a record of 21-17.
