Sting Upend Vipers, 7-1
|
The Seattle Sting rode a solid performance from 29-year-old starting pitcher Corbin Burnes to a win, beating the Texas Vipers, 7-1, at Pepsi Dome. Keider Montero recorded the save, making him 2 for 2. The first-place Sting, at 96-42, now lead their division by 22½ games.
Shohei Ohtani had a big 3-run home run for the Sting in the top of the second inning. With Seattle leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Chris Bassitt, who is tied for 8th in the UL in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 45th home run of the season, which put the Sting on top, 5-0.
"We want to make a habit of winning," Ohtani said after the game.
