Stars Best Millers in Pitching Duel
|
The Minnesota Millers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Sandy Alcantara into a win. Instead, the Cincinnati Stars prevailed, 1-0. Alcantara threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Tyler Wells got the win, improving to 6-12. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and no runs, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Colin Holderman converted his 14th save in 17 tries.
Cincinnati used the hitting of Francisco Alvarez to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a solo home run in the top of the first inning to put the Stars on top, 1-0. For the game, Alvarez had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said Minnesota manager Pierre Duschesnau.
The Stars raised their record to 51-88.
