Riptides Popped by Ironmen, 6-3
|
The umbrellas came out during the Pittsburgh-Carolina contest at PNC Park.
The Pittsburgh Ironmen defeated the Carolina Riptides, 6-3, at PNC Park. Leading the charge for Pittsburgh was first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. He went 2-3 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Tanner Tully, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 7-9.
Guerrero Jr. had a game-changing triple in the bottom of the sixth. On a first pitch curveball from Cristian Javier, he banged a 2-run triple to right-center, giving the Ironmen a 4-3 lead. It was the 1st triple of the year for Guerrero Jr..
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Pittsburgh manager Nick Smith.
The victory puts Pittsburgh at 53-86.
