Bombers Popped by Stars, 6-2
|
Cincinnati pitcher Max Scherzer did his part in helping his team beat the Bronx Bombers, 6-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. The winner was Scherzer. He threw 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Tanner Bibee. The win puts Cincinnati at 53-92.
Mark Vientos had a big 2-run home run for the Stars in the bottom of the first inning. With Cincinnati leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Raul Alcantara and punished it. The result was his 22nd home run of the season, which put the Stars on top, 3-0.
"Max was cooking with gas," said Cincinnati manager Pat Padula.
