San Francisco Beats Baltimore, 7-2
|
San Francisco picked up a win at Pac Bell Park, bumping off the Baltimore Wildcats, 7-2. Pitcher Framber Valdez was a major reason the Dragons emerged victorious. In 7 innings, Valdez surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. San Francisco raised its record to 24-16 with the win.
Willson Contreras had a big run-scoring double for the Dragons in the bottom of the second inning. With San Francisco leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from Casey Mize, who is tied for 5th in the FL in innings pitched with 49.1, and swatted a double to right. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Dragons ahead, 2-0.
Said losing manager Joe Bubanj: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
