Sharks Get Clutch Win, 3-2
|
The New York Sharks took St Louis pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.'s best shot and still were able to claim a win at Busch Stadium. The final score had New York getting past the Sluggers, 3-2. McCullers Jr. went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 8. New York reliever Michael Kopech was the winner. His record is now 2-2. Robert Garcia took the loss. Earning his 8th save of the year was Blake Treinen.
New York needed the clutch hitting of Matt Wallner to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Sharks on top, 3-2. For the game, Wallner had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Wallner called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
With the win, New York has a record of 18-22. St Louis falls to 25-15.
